Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data BibleToday collects, why, who helps us process it, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have.

Who is responsible for your data

BibleToday (published at bibletoday.in) is operated by Cedar Information Technology Pvt. Ltd., a company incorporated in India (CIN: U72200TG2013PTC089376), which decides why and how your personal data is processed — in data-protection terms, we are the “data fiduciary” (controller). What we collect

Account details: your email address, and a display name and username you choose. If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic profile (name, email) from Google.
Your study activity: reading progress and dates, notes you write, quiz results, and reflection responses.
Groups and chat: the groups you create or join, invitations, your role, group settings you set (including any meeting link), and the messages you send in group chat.
Payments (only if you subscribe): our payment processor handles your card/payment details — we do not store full card numbers. We keep a record of your plan and billing status.
Usage and technical data: basic logs needed to run and secure the service (such as your timezone preference and app-usage counts for credit metering), and cookies needed to keep you signed in.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

To provide the service — your account, reading plan, notes, and groups — because you asked us to (performance of our agreement with you / your consent at sign-up).
To operate group chat and show your read-status and messages to the right people in your groups.
To process payments and manage subscriptions, where you buy a plan.
To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and spam, and enforce our Terms (our legitimate interest in a safe service).
To communicate with you about the service and respond to your requests.
To comply with legal obligations that apply to us.

Who processes data for us

We use a small number of trusted providers (“data processors”) who handle data on our instructions to run BibleToday:

Supabase — our database and authentication provider, which stores your account, study data, and group messages, encrypted in transit and at rest.
Anthropic (Claude) — the AI that assists with study content and, where you use AI features, processes the text of your request. It is not used to train models on your private data.
API providers for Scripture text (such as API.Bible) — used to display Bible passages; these do not receive your personal account data.
A payment processor (such as Razorpay) — used only if you subscribe, to take payment securely.
Google — only if you choose Google sign-in, to authenticate you.

Some providers may process or store data outside India. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards and only share what is needed to deliver the service. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for third-party advertising.

A note about group chat

Group chat is not end-to-end encrypted. Your messages are stored on our systems so the chat works across your devices and over time. Members of a group can see the messages in that group; group admins can delete messages; and our team can access content when needed to run the service, act on a report, or meet a legal requirement. Please do not share highly sensitive personal information in group chat.

How long we keep it

Account and study data: for as long as your account is active.
Group messages: retained so group history stays available; if a group is deleted, its messages, members, and invites are permanently removed.
When you delete your account, we delete your profile and associated data (including your notes, memberships, and messages) — some records may persist briefly in backups or where the law requires us to keep them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and, for EU/EEA visitors, the GDPR), you have rights over your personal data:

Access — ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data (you can edit much of it in your account).
Deletion — ask us to erase your data, or delete your account yourself.
Withdraw consent — where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
Grievance / complaint — raise a concern with us, and, in India, with the Data Protection Board once operational, or your local data-protection authority.

Children

BibleToday is intended for users aged 18 and over, and for younger users only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect data from a child without such consent. If you believe a child has provided us data without it, contact us and we will take appropriate steps. Church leaders inviting minors into groups are responsible for obtaining guardian consent.

Cookies

We use only the cookies and similar storage needed to keep you signed in and remember basic preferences (such as your theme and timezone). We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and at rest and access controls that limit who can see what. No online service can be perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to act quickly if something goes wrong.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service changes. We will update the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
